This video will demonstrate how you can upgrade the Read and Understood App (Add-in) to the SharePoint App Catalog and then upgrade it within a SharePoint Site.
If you are uploading the the App for the first time you can follow this video too, however, once installed to the App Catalog you will need to add the App to those sites you wish to use it by:
Within the Site, click Site Contents,
Click New, App,
Select Read and Understood from the available site Apps
This sort video demonstrates how the editorial process of working with documents does not change when using Read and Understood. This is an essential feature as it minimises any user training that is need.
Read and Understood uses predefined rules that determine which documents should or should not be used for Acknowledgement notifications.
SharePoint features such as Approval, Check-in and Check-out all work exactly as you would expect with Read and Understood.
The video will show, when a document is updated in SharePoint, how users are notified of the changes and if required to do so, acknowledge reading the updated version.
This video show how to enable Read and Understood for a Document Library.
In addition, it shows how by using SharePoint Content Types it is possible to create a separate rule by Content Type.
Reading Category inheritance is an important feature to simplify administration and create flexible approaches to targeting different content to meet different needs. The example in the video shows a Reading Category requiring Acknowledgement for All documents in a library, with a separate Reading Category for ‘How to’ Content Types which for those documents overrides the library rule and applies it own, which is to just send a Notification.
